It was such a soft winter here in The Netherlands.. Until now.
Yesterday I was desperately freezing & my skin doesn’t like the cold weather aswel. It’s getting dry and especially my face needs some extra attention.
I think I’m not the only one with this problem, so that’s why I’m sharing some ‘how to fix winter skin problems’ tips today.
I think this is one of the most important steps: moisturize a lot! When there’s not enough water in the skin it will get dry (nothing difficult about that ;)), so what the skin needs is a cream that protects your skin from ‘water escaping’ and gives your skin some more moisture.
CHOOSE CREAM OVER LOTION
A thick cream gives you more protection than a lotion. I’ve to say that I chose lotions over creams, since many creams are feeling too fat and thick on my skin. Last month I finally found an amazing cream which feels soft and not fat at all: Nivea Natural Balance. It’s only €6 so worth trying :)
USE FOOD-GRADE OILS
I like to use an oil now and then. The best oils are the food-grade ones. Go for some coconut oil, olive oil or avocado oil for a perfect natural skin balance. You skin only needs a mini drop of oil during the whole day. Or go for an evening treatment: clean your skin and soften it with a thin mask of coconut oil. Leave it for like 5-10 minutes & then wash your face with some luke warm water.
DON’T OVERHEAT YOUR HOUSE
Humidity drops down when you’re heating your house, so go for a warm blanket in stead of a super hot central heating ;)
And.. Try to keep your bedroom as cold as you can. It’s not only good for your rest, it’s the best for your skin aswel.
LIMIT YOUR BATH & SHOWER TIME
I love hot & long showers during the cold days (and I think I’m not the only one), but they will wash away the natural skin oils that protect your skin for the cold weather. Go for a quick bath/shower and just use ‘normal’ warm water. Want some extra protection? Use a soap/shower gel that contains shea butter.
